About Maasai Mara National Reserve
The Maasai Mara National Reserve is Kenya's most celebrated wildlife destination, a vast savannah ecosystem covering 1,510 sq km in the Rift Valley's Narok County. Together with Tanzania's Serengeti, it forms the greater Mara-Serengeti ecosystem, one of the world's last great wilderness areas. The Mara is synonymous with the Great Wildebeest Migration, the annual movement of over 1.5 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebra and 500,000 gazelle. The dramatic Mara River crossings, where thousands of animals plunge into crocodile-filled water, are considered the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth. Beyond the migration, the Mara sustains Kenya's highest lion density, resident cheetah families, elusive leopards, and massive elephant herds.
