The Journey North
Meet at the agreed CBD pickup point, the overland truck departs sharp at 5:00 AM. Blankets, morning snacks and hot Kenyan tea and coffee are served on board as the DJ playlist kicks in. The route climbs through the coffee and pineapple country of Thika, with the southern slopes of Mount Kenya coming into view on a clear morning.
Equator Crossing, Nanyuki
Group photo stop at the famous Equator marker and the water-draining gravity demonstration. Browse the craft stalls and stretch your legs for about 20 minutes before re-boarding.
Isiolo, Last Stop Before the Wild
A brief comfort and fuel stop, last chance for the ATM, snacks and supplies. Beyond Isiolo the soil turns red, the acacia scrubland opens up and the Northern Frontier begins.
Arrive Samburu, Archer’s Gate
Park entry is processed (fees included) and game viewing begins the moment we drive through the gate: red earth, doum palms and the Ewaso Ng’iro River glinting through the trees.
Samburu Special Five Game Drive
Your driver-guide works the open plains and acacia scrub tracking the Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Gerenuk (standing on its hind legs to reach acacia tips), Beisa Oryx and the blue-grey Somali Ostrich, with Ol Olokwe Mountain as the backdrop.
Riverside Picnic Lunch, Ewaso Ng’iro
Lunch at a scenic, safe spot on the riverbank while hippos surface and Nile crocodiles bask on the opposite bank.
Predators & Red Elephants Game Drive
The heat drives the big cats into the shade, Samburu’s legendary leopard hour, as your guide scans the acacia branches. Look out for resting lions, pacing cheetahs and electric-blue flocks of Vulturine Guineafowl. Then the highlight: herds of Red Elephants, stained rust-red by the volcanic soil, descend to the river to wade, bathe and drink.
Ol Olokwe Golden-Hour Photoshoot
A stop at the best vantage point for the flat-topped silhouette of Ol Olokwe as the light turns golden, group photos, individual shots, HD video and reels.
Camp, Bonfire & Night Programme
Check in to the tented camp (2-pax sharing) and freshen up. Dinner is served at the bonfire, the live DJ picks up the truck party, and the night rolls on with group games, team building, guide storytelling and stargazing to the sounds of the reserve before lights out.
💡 The truck departs Nairobi before dawn. The earlier we leave, the more time we have inside Samburu. Be at the meeting point 10 minutes before departure or the truck moves without you!
